Hawthorn, pomelo, lime-curd, green-mango, bitter-almond and acacia-honey aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with tangy acidity and creamy layers. Flavorful with fantastic tension and minerality. Well done. Drink or hold.

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

Graves, a venerable appellation in Bordeaux, France, is renowned for its historical significance and the production of distinguished red and white wines. What makes Graves unique is its diverse terroir, featuring gravelly soils that not only lend the region its name but also provide excellent drainage and heat reflection, contributing to the ripening of grapes. Red wines from Graves are predominantly blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a balanced expression of dark fruits, structure, and age-worthy potential. The appellation is also celebrated for its exceptional white wines, primarily crafted from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Rich, ageworthy Sémillon combines with crisper Sauvignon Blanc in this satisfyingly ripe wine. Still young, it has a rich, full-bodied future that will keep the wine's freshness in focus. Drink from 2023.

High Sauvignon Blanc aromatics on the first nose, underlaid by a richer apricot and honeysuckle that come in from the Sémillon. This doesn't quite lift off, although there is attractive placing of slate minerality as it opens. Good-quality, with touches of succulent minerality. A yield of 42hl/ha, 40% new oak. Drinking Window 2021 - 2032.

Lots of ripe pineapple, quince, and lemon-laced notes emerge from the 2018 Château Bouscaut Blanc, which is nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced. Drink this soft, nicely textured, yet still lively white over the coming 3-4 years.

The Wine Independent

The white 2018 Bouscaut leaps from the glass with scents of preserved peaches, pineapples, and fresh Bosc pears, plus hints of struck match and cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a lively backbone, with an oily texture and a long tropical finish.
