The opulent fruit character is excellent with strawberry, blueberry and raspberry puree as well as some violets. Almost exotic. Medium- to full-bodied, this has tight and integrated tannins that are very fine-grained. 60% merlot, 30% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon. This is an exquisitely polished young 2022. Drink after 2028.

This is a touch exotic in style, with dark and winey blackberry, boysenberry and mulberry compote flavors forming the core, while anise, cocoa, alder and Christmas pudding notes add an exotic backdrop. Caressing and seductive through the gently toasted finish. A smoky eye Pomerol. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2026 through 2040. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

The 2022 Certan de May is just as impressive as it was from barrel. Silky, persistent and exceptionally well balanced, the 2022 is most notable for its refined structure and the natural opulence of the year. Blackberry, graphite, clove, menthol and licorice build as this ample, substantial Pomerol shows off its personality. The ripeness of the vintage is evident, and there is some noticeable oak, but this is still quite attractive. Tasted two times.

A blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Château Certan De May comes from a tiny 5.5 hectares of vines of clay and deep gravelly soils. The higher Cabernet content gives this a unique style, and its deep purple/ruby hue is followed by a concentrated, juicy, focused Pomerol with both cassis and dark cherry fruits, nicely integrated acidity, fine-grained yet building tannins, and some classic earthy, spicy, graphite-like nuances. The balance is spot on, and this deserves 4-6 years in the cellar and should be long-lived.

The 2022 Certan de May has turned out nicely in bottle, bursting with aromas of minty blackberries and creamy new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and polished palate that's fleshy, suave and nicely balanced. This charming Pomerol is another strong effort for this discreet but well-located estate opposite Vieux Château Certan.

As always this has a blend which features a lot of Cabernet, with 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the remaining 60% being all Merlot. The Cabernet certainly comes through on the nose, which opens with rosehips, cedar, pencil shavings and juniper over a layer of dark and curranty fruit. The palate shows a medium-bodied presence, with quite juicy dark fruit at its heart, with aromatic notes of red pepper, pomegranate and spice hidden within before a sappy backbone of tannins emerge and dominate the finish and length. The raw material here is clearly good, but I feel there should be more harmony and integration on the palate. The alcohol on the label is 14.5%.
