There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Again, this is a vintage where Croizet Bages has inched forward in quality - it's noticeable and should be congratulated, because it remains great value as far as classified Pauillacs go. This needs time in the glass to open up as it has an extremely rich tannic structure. It's masculine in style; a hefty, good quality, savoury character that builds extremely slowly and surely in a confident way. Matured in 50% new oak. Eric Boissenot consults. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038.

The 2016 Croizet Bages has a clean and well-defined bouquet with tobacco-tinged black fruit, conservative but nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm and grainy tannin. It displays some elegance towards the finish, something that I do not always find in this Pauillac growth and it may well mature into a fine, probably earlier-drinking 2016 compared to its peers. But there is a sense of style in situ.

With a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Croizet-Bages is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out of the glass with notes of plum preserves, baked black cherries and crème de cassis, plus suggestions of menthol, unsmoked cigars, and cumin seed. Medium-bodied, the palate is jam packed with expressive black fruit layers, framed by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

The 2016 Croizet-Bages has an open and engaging bouquet, a mélange of red and black fruit laced with cedar and subtle mint aromas. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins matched with a fine bead of acidity. It displays a tad more “rondeur” than its peers thanks to some expressive Merlot and fans out on the finish. A Croizet-Bages that “leaves the customer satisfied.

An impressive, fruit-loaded, fleshy Pauillac, the 2016 Château Croizet-Bages offers a deep ruby/purple color as well as a complex bouquet of dark fruits, leafy herbs, and truffle. With good mid-palate depth, a chewy, medium to full-bodied texture, and outstanding length, it has plenty to love and should keep for 10-15 years.
