The fact that 1996 is a good vintage is without doubt, but that 1996 Leoville Poyferré is this good was a positive surprise. Deep and fine, with a structured, muscular layer of stamina and fruit, very well balanced but at the same time strong and insisting, this wine has a remarkable balance between innocence and power. It is a very fine, mature example of Poyferré that should be on the top for another 10-15 years and thereafter age gracefully.
