92-93 2023 Poujeaux has a perfumed, charming and fruity nose. The wine is spicy, deep and concentrated and even though the tannins are understated it will require 3-5 years of cellaring in order to meld together. A nice and classic glass of wine.
There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act – the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

From the renowned vineyards of Bordeaux to the picturesque landscapes of Burgundy, France offers a wine lover’s dream journey. Plenty of nutmeg, cedar, black currant and mushroom aromas. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a savory finish of milk chocolate. A little austere, but just right. Good value. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Poujeaux is terrific. Bold and juicy, the 2023 wraps around the palate with sumptuous red-toned fruit. Blood orange, cinnamon and cedar inflections add layers of nuance, while plush contours wrap it all together in style. This is a terrific Poujeaux. It offers a bit more early appeal than some recent vintages, and yet it also has the structure to age gracefully for many years to come. Tasted two times.

89-91 The 2023 Poujeaux offers up youthfully reserved aromas of licorice, dark wild berries and smoke. Medium-bodied, firm and slightly austere, it’s elegant and gently structured with powdery tannins and a long, somber finish. A second encounter revealed greater flesh and plentitude. It's a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon (a higher proportion than usual), 35% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.

Based on 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot and brought up 12 months in 30% new oak, the 2023 Château Poujeaux offers ripe red and black fruits, roasted herbs, tobacco, and some chocolaty notes on the nose. It's medium-bodied, has good concentration, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It could be drunk with plenty of pleasure today, yet this will nevertheless benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and have two decades of longevity with ease. Drink 2030-2045.

This red’s supple red and black cherry fruit has melded nicely with notes of black tea and burnished cedar, plus a hint of tobacco. Shows a sanguine echo on the stylish finish. Nicely done. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2032. 18,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.

Quite austere and lean, focussed but refreshing with high acidity and quite chalky, powdery tannins but a straight overall expression. Fruit is clean and pure - raspberry, blackcurrant and black cherry. Doesn't really deviate from the core. It's a soft, gentle expression with present but not imposing tannins that give the structure and creates the textured mouthfeel all the way through. Some liquorice and dark chocolate on the finish. Lovely classicism on offer with plenty of Cabernet character. Ageing one third new oak, the rest one and two year barrels.
Pretty aromas of wild blackberries, violets, milk chocolate and licorice. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, creamy tannins. Polished and concentrated.…
