Sharp and tangy, bright, energetic and so lively in the mouth. Keeps a sense of calm and seriousness, the brightness softens quite quickly with more of a cool, creamy, salty touch at the end and some flinty minerality on the finish. I love the initial brightness and intensity of apple, lemon, peach and apricot fruit before it narrows into a long finish.

White Bordeaux

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

The Wine Independent

89-91 The 2022 R Rieussec is a blend of 55% Semillon and 45% Sauvignon Blanc. It needs some coaxing to bring out notes of lime leaves, freshly squeezed grapefruit, and lemon drops with hints of wet slate and coriander seed. The medium-bodied palate has good intensity of citrusy flavors with a chalky undercurrent and a spicy lift to the finish.

Winery Notes

Powerful, harmonious nose with notes of citrus, mango, and other exotic fruit. The direct, energetic attack on the palate presents the same exotic, fresh character. The wine presents plenty of volume and good harmony. The buttery notes from the barrel-ageing have a definite presence and will quickly become integrated to give the wine more complexity. The finish is backed up by a pleasant acidity.
