For a relatively young wine this is already quite expressive, the fruit rich and creamy but bright and lifted at the same time. There are both red and dark berry notes as well as a hint of chocolate. and despite the alcohol the wine appears balanced. Drink soon for the hedonistic fruit or age for 20-odd years. The 'must-try' pick.

The 2018 Le Vray Croix de Gay has one of the vintage’s more opulent bouquets, featuring luscious red cherries, wild strawberry and black truffle, plus licorice and hints of cassis blossoming with aeration. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe tannins, gentle grip and fine acidity. Almost pastille-like toward the finish, which, as I suggested from barrel, does not quite deliver the complexity that the aromatics deserve. Still, it should give 15–20 years of drinking pleasure.
