Expressive nose of blackcurrants, parma violets and spices all with such a sweet nuance. Great quality to the tannins here, they’re ripe and mouth coating but fine and well defined. This is high toned with pure strawberry and red cherry fruit balanced by a mineral chalky-textured core. I love the combination of fruit, density, chewiness and acidity. This is sculpted with lots of promise. A delicate style but with clear focus and intensity all with a slight voluptuousness in the expansiveness of the fruit. Joyful.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Vray Croix de Gay has a powerful perfume of red roses, candied violets and jasmine tea over a core of stewed plums, black cherry compote and kirsch with wafts of tobacco leaf and powdered cinnamon. The full-bodied palate is densely packed with fragrant red and black fruits, framed by fantastic freshness and plush tannins, finishing long and wonderfully floral.

The 2019 Vray Croix de Gay has a charming bouquet, actually quite Saint-Émilion-like in style with those precocious crushed strawberry and raspberry scents mixed with allspice and subtle loamy/peaty notes. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, traces of black truffle intermingling with the black fruit, leading to a very cohesive and velvety finish. This is a lovely Pomerol from a rejuvenated estate under Vincent Millet.
