This is aromatically similar to the Volnay villages while being notably spicier. The markedly finer medium weight flavors possess excellent punch and evident minerality while delivering impressive persistence on the seductively textured finale. This too is lovely and worth considering.

The 2018 Volnay Les Frémiets ler Cru is very expressive on the nose with loamy notes filtering through the layers of black and red fruit. I find superb minerality here, the aromatics seem to "expand" with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very lithe and velvety smooth. Moderate depth towards the finish, this has a lovely salinity that maintains freshness all the way through. Excellent.
