Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. The southern sub-region is home to an enormous variety of grapes, and produces red, white and rosé wines, and some of the world's most famous and adored blended wines. The continental climate of the region is ideal for growing grapes, and the winds which blow from the Central Massif help temper the heat in the vineyards, leading to very ripe fruits holding plenty of flavor.

All Syrah aged 15 months in barrel (15% new), the 2022 Saint Joseph Olivaie offers red and black fruits, leafy herbs, sappy flowers, and spicy wood. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with ripe tannins, it's a layered, elegant, and impressively made wine in a classic style. Drink bottles over the coming 8-10 years. Drink 2025-2035.

A pure, perfumed wine, the 2022 Saint Joseph l'Olivaie reveals aromas of plums, dark berries and dark cherries mingled with lovely menthol notes. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textured, it's seamless with a fleshy core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, dark berry-inflected finish. Destemmed, it's matured for 15 months in barrels, of which 15% were new.

A well-composed, silky and bright red. Aromas of dark cherries, raspberries, roasted meat and some baking spices on the nose, following through to a medium body with fine tannins. There is a succulent, pulpy center palate with a silky texture toward the cherry-like finish. Drink or hold.

A structured style of St-Joseph with present tannins, firm acidity and enjoyable concentration. This has good finesse – the tannins are smooth and elegant, the fruit is ripe and concentrated, giving depth and balance. The oak is quite prominent, but it doesn't overwhelm the fruit, just lends considerable spice to the finish. Should last for some time, and is likely to improve with age. From 60-year-old vines, the grapes were destemmed, and aged in 15% new oak. Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale.
