More expressive and lively than the entry-level cuvée, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grande Réserve from Domaine La Boutinière exhales a smoky, slightly oaky bouquet of dark wild berries, licorice, cinnamon and spices. Medium to full-bodied, dense and structured, it has a powerful, rich mid-palate with a fleshy core of fruit and dense but elegant tannins complemented by chocolate and tapenade notes. This blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah, matured in demi-muids and foudres, is crafted from vines planted mainly on sandy, calcareous soils in the northern part of the plateau of La Crau. It should improve with a decade in the cellar.
