Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. The southern sub-region is home to an enormous variety of grapes, and produces red, white and rosé wines, and some of the world's most famous and adored blended wines. The continental climate of the region is ideal for growing grapes, and the winds which blow from the Central Massif help temper the heat in the vineyards, leading to very ripe fruits holding plenty of flavor.

At this stage, the 2021 Côte-Rôtie La Mouline is the most reduced of the three cuvées, offering up a bouquet of oak, sweet spices, dark berries, fresh licorice and violet. Medium- to full-bodied, concentrated and seamless, it’s layered and refined, with a sweet core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and a deep mid-palate that leads to an ethereal, endless finish. This is a sumptuous rendition.

93-95 Leading off the three single vineyard releases, the 2021 Côte Rôtie La Mouline reveals a deeper ruby/purple hue as well as Burgundian aromatics of black raspberries, graphite, camphor, and flowers. It's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, incredibly elegant mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish.

Mid-bodied, round and refreshing, the 2021 is an elegant La Mouline, tidily underpinned by a bright core of fresh acidity. Finishes with elegant persistence on the long finish.

Pretty berry fruits on the nose, that are perfumed and delicate. Light-bodied, it has taken its oak remarkably well. Only very delicately tannic. The acidity is low too, this is light in concentration, and drinkable already. A petite vintage of La Mouline, not terribly long. From lieu-dit Côte Blonde. At the beginning of its 40 months in new French oak barriques.
