Esporao Torre 2017 750ml

The 2017 Torre do Esporão is a very special red blend that they have only produced in a handful of years. It’s a blend of 40% Aragonez, 30% Touriga Franca and 25% Alicante Bouschet (from Portalegre) and some Touriga Nacional from different vineyards. It fermented separately in different containers depending on the grape variety and matured in large oak vats and 500-liter barrels for 18 months. This comes in at 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.62, 6.45 grams of acidity and 2.8 grams of residual sugar. Like previous vintages produced, this has the complete ripeness of the grapes, which to them really makes the difference. The wine is really impressive, harmonious, elegant, powerful and concentrated but with poise and balance and showing some elegance. it is thick and dense, with abundant, fine-grained tannins. It’s aging at a glacial pace. It has the rusticity of the wines from yesteryear—think Rosado Fernandes. 26,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2019.
