Unique aromas of dried apples, pears, ginseng and hints of tarte tatin. Full-bodied and very rich but with some tangy acidity that is a bit lifted and brings freshness and brightness to this. Toffee undertones. A blend of mostly 2104 and 2015 with some reserve wine. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region

Champagne

The beautiful rolling hillsides of the Champagne region of France have, for hundreds of years, been producing many of the world's most famous wines. The sparkling white wines to come out of Champagne's prestigious wineries have conquered the world, and are drank in celebration across the globe. The vast majority of the region is under vine, and grows predominantly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals, which are usually blended together by master wine-makers in order to make their recognizable and widely loved produce. The north-easterly region of Champagne has a relatively cool climate, and quite a lot of rainfall, making it far from ideal for ripening grapes. However, the presence of heavily forested areas in the region helps maintain a balanced temperature, and the generations of expertise the wineries hold clearly produces excellent results in spite of the climatic problems.

The NV Brut Nature Reliance is a blend of 80% Pinot Meunier with 16% Pinot Noir and 4% Chardonnay based on the vintages 2011 (90%) and 2010 (10%). With intense yellow-fleshed fruit and sweet cherry aromas with spicy and vinous flavors, this is a lean yet very complex, long, firmly structured and elegant Champagne with a long, intense yet still a bit austere and very tensioned finish. It probably needs some time to gain more finesse, but the potential is enormous. This should be great with food, especially raw fish and even matured cheese

The NV Champagne Reliance Brut Nature is a blend of 79% Pinot Meunier, 13% Pinot Noir, and the rest Chardonnay, with no dosage. From the 2014 and 2015 vintages, this is the current release, as they hold back the wines for additional time, and it was aged for 7 years on the lees. The wine has a ripe profile, with an inviting nose of custard, orchard fruit, pear, tangerine, and preserved citrus. Very elegant, with a fine mousse and a sustained finish, it’s sleek and refreshing without being austere, offering creaminess, powdery floral notes, and a chalky, pithy texture. Drink now or over the coming 10 years.

Pale gold. A pungent bouquet displays scents of pear skin, nectarine, iodine and chalky minerals. The mineral and iodine qualities carry onto the palate, which offers intense orchard and pit fruit flavors, a chewy texture and a refreshingly bitter jolt of lemon pith. Closes with impressive power and mineral cut, leaving a juicy pear note behind.

A crisp Champagne, with the chalky mousse carrying apple peel and walnut skin accents to the flavors of whole-grain toast, plumped golden raisin and crystallized honey. Lightly minerally on the modest finish. Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged October 2023. Drink now. 740 cases made, 125 cases imported.

Winery Notes

"Reliance" means "connection". Reliance helps to connect two types of champagne drinkers. People who don't know anything about wine usually choose a brand name champagne (they feel safer); while wine lovers look for a champagne with more unique characteristics. In Reliance, Franck Pascal wants to connect these two types of consumers and provide a reliable Champagne with extraordinary quality and appeal.
