Intense aromas of flint, matchstick, stony minerals and dried apples and pears. Heather, too. Medium- to full-bodied with a creamy texture that caresses the palate. Already in balance. Second wine of Domaine de Chevalier. Drink this and enjoy.

White Bordeaux

France is widely known as being the home of many of the world's finest white wines, and within France, the name which rings out across the wine world and is always associated with excellence of quality and flavor is Bordeaux. The white wines of the magnificent Bordeaux region are typically blended, and rely on the winemaker's skill and expertise to achieve the fine balance between the primary grape varietals used. Most blended white Bordeaux wines are made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, although there are actually nine grapes officially allowed by French wine law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white wines. The other six are Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac, although the use of these other grapes has been in steady decline over the past century.

Graves

Graves, a venerable appellation in Bordeaux, France, is renowned for its historical significance and the production of distinguished red and white wines. What makes Graves unique is its diverse terroir, featuring gravelly soils that not only lend the region its name but also provide excellent drainage and heat reflection, contributing to the ripening of grapes. Red wines from Graves are predominantly blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, offering a balanced expression of dark fruits, structure, and age-worthy potential. The appellation is also celebrated for its exceptional white wines, primarily crafted from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. These whites showcase bright acidity, citrus flavors, and a unique flinty character. The 2022 L'Esprit De Chevalier Blanc is a beautifully elegant white offering juicy citrus and minty floral notes in a focused, fresh profile. Medium to full-bodied, it’s clean, balanced, and vibrant, with terrific purity and precision. It’s the second wine of the domaine yet tastes like a Grand Vin. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

The 2022 L'Esprit de Chevalier Blanc reveals a pure, delicate bouquet of pear, peach, flowers, anise and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, it’s ample and concentrated, framed by delicate dry extracts and bright acids that segue into a long, fresh and delicate finish. This is a real success.

Jasmine, green almond and thyme notes lead the way, backed by a solid core of white peach and quinine. Everything drives nicely through the finish. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2028. 1,200 cases made.

The 2022 L’Esprit de Chevalier Blanc is a terrific second wine from Domaine de Chevalier. Soft contours wrap around a core of apricot, mint, white flowers, sage and citrus peel.

Winery Notes

Domaine de Chevalier is renowned for its ability to produce great wines even in unfashionable vintages thanks to its unique terroir and a draconian selection in the vineyard and the cellar. In fact, this philosophy at times requires vineyard workers to carry out five waves of picking in order to pick only the ripest possible grapes. Furthermore, as of 1986, the planting of young vines led to the creation of both a red and white second wine called Esprit de Chevalier. This includes vats that do not have quite the structure and focus of the grand vin as well as wine made from young vines, Vats that go into red Esprit de Chevalier must nevertheless be complex, well-balanced, well-structured and, above all, elegant enough to be in keeping with Chevalier’s image. As for the dry white Esprit de Chevalier, this barrel-aged second wine is rich, lively, and complex with very pure aromas. Esprit de Chevalier blanc is a fruity, classy wine, but more open than the grand vin and therefore a treat to drink young.
