#30 in Top 100 Wines of France, 2024. A refined, seductive and well-crafted Cote-Rotie with aromas of dark cherries, currants, dried herbs, cured meat, leather, crushed stones and baking spices. It’s medium-bodied with finely grained tannins. Super fine structure with balance and grace. Bright acidity brings liveliness and light at the center. It’s so elegant and restrained, with a silky texture pushing through. There is a ton of of spices as well adding to the great vitality this wine found in this cooler vintage. Long and spicy finish. Limited production. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

The Rhone Valley of southern France is a particularly fascinating wine region, with a history that stretches back to at least six hundred BCE, when the ancient Greeks first began cultivating vines there. The region itself is split into two distinct sub-regions, with the northern sub-region being famed for its production of exceptional Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier wines, packed full of interesting character and expressing the terroir found there. The southern sub-region is home to an enormous variety of grapes, and produces red, white and rosé wines, and some of the world's most famous and adored blended wines. The continental climate of the region is ideal for growing grapes, and the winds which blow from the Central Massif help temper the heat in the vineyards, leading to very ripe fruits holding plenty of flavor.

A fresh, aerial, violet-scented style, though it’s introverted for now. It has exceptionally fine tannins – very similar to La Viallière in style. It’s well balanced, the acidity is high and the tannins are quite generous. A mineral style. Lieu-dit Neve, south of La Viallière, rocky mica schist soils.

One of top wines in the vintage, the 2021 Côte Rôtie Nève comes from a single lieu-dit in the northern part of the appellation and was 85% destemmed and brought up in 30% new barrels. Gorgeous redcurrant and black raspberry-like fruit, spring flowers, and lots of minerality define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with ripe, firm yet polished tannins, beautiful balance, and a great finish. Give it a few years and it should keep for 15 years or so.
