Intense and deeply colored, with lots of violets, fresh blue fruit, blackberries and minerals. Really flavorful, with precise tannins and lovely firmness without chewiness. Long and concentrated but fresh and energetic. 66% merlot, 23% cabernet sauvignon and 11% petit verdot. Drink from 2028.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Here, in the home of the world's finest wines, the type and quality of grapes used is of utmost importance, and the legendary wineries which work on the banks of the Gironde river have mastered the careful art of juice blending to find the perfect balance for their produce. 92-94 Barrel sample. A blend of a number of Haut-Médoc estates owned by the Borie family, the wine is spicy, ripe with firm tannins wrapped inside a comfortable richness. At this stage, the wood is showing of course, but so is the ripe black fruit.

The 2022 Madame de Beaucaillou is an elegant, polished wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and white pepper are all beautifully lifted. Mid-weight and gracious, with terrific purity, the Madame de Beaucaillou is a gorgeous wine from proprietor Bruno Borie and his team at Ducru-Beaucaillou.

The 2022 Madame de Beaucaillou offers up aromas of dark berries, plums and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy palate that's quite rich and concentrated, with a juicy core of fruit framed by youthfully chewy tannins. It's a blend of 66% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot.

The 2022 Madame De Beaucaillou (66% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Petit Verdot) is brilliant, with a dense ruby/plum hue as well as powerful aromatics of crème de cassis, ripe black cherries, spicy wood, and smoky tobacco. This rich, medium to full-bodied, layered, concentrated beauty way over-delivers. Drink bottles over the coming decade or so.

Grippy and firm in the mouth, tannins take hold with blackcurrant, fragrant plums, liquorice spice, tobacco and stone element. It has a flash of heat at first but then settles with a cooling touch on the finish. High acidity meets plenty of brooding spice and bitterness to give plenty of flavour with lingering bite. Unfussy but this has personality.

The blend follows the usual pattern, taking the fruit from Cussac and Listrac, everything that used to be part of Fourcas Borie. The élevage was 12 months in 20% new oak, the rest second- and third-fill barrels. Rather an attractive, approachable nose, with crushed red cherry and chalk. The palate is charming, with a fine grip underneath a core of dried red cherry, currant and dried cranberry fruits, before it finishes with a flourish of red pepper. Dry tannins in the finish, so this will need a little time to come good. Give it three to five years. The alcohol on the label is 14.5%.
