There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. The Montevertine 2019 Pian del Ciampolo reveals bright lines and a perky or punchy personality with plenty of tart cherry, raspberry and wild plum. The wine offers a naked and transparent interpretation of Sangiovese, and its pretty fruit flavors cede to hints of blue flower and crushed limestone. Winemaking sees cement and a quick 12 months in oak cask. The fruit is sourced from various vineyard sites, and 21,000 bottles were released.
