The 2024 El Caserón de Mahina was sourced from a small plot that was vinified by different people in the past that they took over in 2024. The vines are now some 60 years of age and grow in albariza de barajuela laminar soils with a high content of calcium carbonate. This is a cooler place, and in 2024, they waited for the ripeness of the grapes (but the wine is still 11.5% alcohol). It’s a canonical example of an unfortified white, fermented in Manzanilla casks, where the wine matured under a veil of flor yeasts for 10 months. The nose is also a textbook example of the category, with wet chalk, esparto grass and some spiciness. The palate is lively, sapid and salty, with austerity and edge. It has structure, depth and balance. This is a very good start. 3,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2025.
