A spicy style, with black cherry and blueberry flavors tinged by sweet oak, earth and floral notes. Bright, with forward fruit offset by dusty tannins on the lingering finish. Best from 2021 through 2038.

Varietal

Pinot Noir

Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

Appellation

Cote De Beaune

The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.

Strawberry and raspberry aromas and flavors mingle with stony mineral elements in this pure, elegant red, which is well-structured, with a long, linear finish that echoes fruit and mineral notes. Tender and tough.

Vinous Media

The 2015 Beaune Les Grèves 1er Cru has a more concentrated bouquet than its peers, presenting layers of red and black fruit, though without quite the same precision and detail as I hoped. The palate is better, delivering good grip on the entry, if a little introspective in context of the vintage; veins of cola and brown spice are interlaced through the black fruit on the structured finish. I feel this is in a broody phase and will ameliorate with four or five years in the bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Winery Notes

Les Grèves is voluptuous and structured with aromas and flavors of bright red fruit and mineral notes. The flavor is intense and powerful but is delivered on the palate with finesse. Aging in 30% new Burgundian pièce brings notes of vanilla and spice. The vines were planted between 1969 and 1987.
