Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

The 2024 Pinot Noir Sonoma County is a bright ruby with a light haze, and the nose is very attractive with aromas of wild raspberries and floral wildflowers. The palate is refined, pure, and completely appealing, with a lovely, even texture. Drink now or over the next 10 years. Jeff Mangahas noted the cool spring and above-average rainfall in 2024, followed by one of the hottest July and August stretches in 15 years, leading to stressed vines, thinning, and slower tannin evolution. The wines are just now coming into their own, whereas 2023 showed beautifully immediately. Drink 2026-2036.

This is friendly, with plum, cherry and boysenberry compote flavors threaded with a hint of red tea. Shows a pretty gloss of light-handed, spicy toast on the finish. Drink now through 2028. 3,675 cases made.

Winery Notes

Strawberry and red fruits jump from the glass in this multifaceted wine. Complexed with notes of sassafras and bergamot, aromas of dried rose petal are layered in the nose and offer up classic Pinot Noir perfume. In the mouth, the wine has a sense of roundness and harmony that is satisfying and refreshing. Dark red fruit flavors mix with hints of cocoa and wood spices. Sourced from various vineyards in the Russian River Valley including some younger blocks from the various Estate vineyards.
