This has all the rounded, rich texture and generosity that you would expect from white Hermitage, with mango and pear fruit. The acidity is fairly low as is typical for this style, but the structure is provided by a gentle bitter almond touch on the finish. Would be delicious with guinea fowl with morels or blanquette de veau. Not made every year, the white La Chapelle comes from lieu-dit Maison Blanche at the top of the hill of Hermitage, on stony, silty soils. Fermentation in concrete eggs and oak barrels, (15% new). Light green-hued yellow. Highly perfumed, incisive aromas of white peach, tangerine and honey pick up suggestions of iodine and chamomile as the wine opens up. Shows superb clarity and thrust on the palate, offering sappy citrus and pit fruit flavors that deepen and spread out slowly with air while maintaining energy. Finishes with excellent focus, mineral lift and persistence, leaving behind hints of candied lemon, pear nectar and oyster shell. The combination of depth and finesse here is pretty stunning, and I'll bet that this wine will enjoy a very long, smooth aging arc.

The 2014 Hermitage La Chapelle Blanc offers a liquid rock-like character as well as sensational notes of buttered citrus, flower oil, white flowers and stone fruits. Backward, tight and compact on the palate, it needs 2-3 years of cellaring and will drink well over the following decade. I love the elegance and purity in these 2014 whites. They don’t have the exuberant fruit and texture of the 2015s, yet they excel on their purity, elegance and charm.

Varietal: White Rhone Blend

The Rhone region of France has long been associated with some the finest blended white wines on earth, with centuries of expertise resulting in a wine industry which is based around the careful blending of a few extremely high quality grape varietals.
