The 2017 Marselan Reserve was aged for ten months in 40% new French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. This isn't ever the deepest of the reds from Recanati, and it is not this year, but it is always one of the most flavorful. The structure and acidity are superb as well. In this warm year, this is still fresh and bright, with wonderfully lifted fruit. The cherries and raspberries dribble across the palate, always with crispness and not a trace of jam. It is all about mid-palate finesse—seeming delicate without ever seeming thin. The intensity of flavor is superb, but don't forget that beautiful structure. It finishes a touch tart and with some tannic pop. With aeration, it acquires some gravitas to go with the big flavor. Some will love this for the flavor, some for the freshness, some for the refinement and others for the general structure. It covers a lot of bases and should make lots of different types of drinkers happy. In very warm weather, you might do well drinking this a few degrees cooler than normal. ... More details

This deep-violet-red-colored wine has aromas of raspberry preserves, lilac and pie crust. Deep-seated tannins seem strong at first, but acidity takes hold on the palate, with flavors of pomegranate, strawberry, black cherry and Mediterranean herbs. The finish is notable for a zippy splash of Seville orange.
Wine Spectator
A concentrated red, with sanguine details marking the dried cherry, coffee bean and spice flavors. The tannins exhibit good grip, showing leather, minty herb and leafy notes on the finish. Kosher. Drink now through 2024. 550 cases made, 100 cases imported.
Winery
The wine has an inimitable flowery aroma, round tannins, and tastes of berries and Mediterranean herbs.

Region: Galilee

Galilee is a region of unrivaled historical, religious and cultural importance, and is beginning to really find its feet as a wine region, too. The blazing sunshine which beats down on the Israeli vineyards around the base of Mount Tabor allows vintners to grow grapes of exceptional quality, and the volcanic, basalt enriched soils found in the region are ideal for producing and cultivating a wide range of grape varietals. A surprising amount of Bordeaux grapes are successfully grown in Galilee, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Chardonnay all doing particularly well in the region. As one might expect, the wine making process which turns such wines into grapes in Galilee is carefully overseen by religious specialists, in order to sell the wines as kosher products around the world.

Country: Israel

Since biblical times, Israel has been an important production center for wine, and continues to be so to this day. All over Israel, the Mediterranean climate the country enjoys ensures that grapes grow to full ripeness, and the vineyards are helped considerably by the mineral rich limestone soils which typify the geology of the wine regions. Interestingly, in Israel, up to fifteen percent of all wine production today is used for sacramental purposes, and the vast majority of the wines produced there are made in accordance to Jewish kosher laws. Israel is split into five major wine producing regions; Galil, The Judean Hills, Shimshon, The Negev, and the Sharon Plain, and in recent years the wine industry of Israel has brought over twenty five million dollars per annum to the Israeli economy.
