Swanky oak adds top-note aromas of cedar and spice to the redcurrants and blueberries on offer here, as well as some dark-stone notes. The palate has such convincing structure with powerful fruit-tannin drive carrying deep, saturated blueberry and plum flavors long. The wood will bed down in time. Try from 2025. Screw cap.

Balances power and elegance, with terrific purity to the spiced plum, juicy black cherry and framboise notes. Delivers polished and refined tannins, with hints of dark chocolate, green tea and fresh sage as well as a whiff of palo santo on the long finish. Cabernet Sauvignon grows in ideal conditions on the Hickinbotham Vineyard thanks to the combined influence of elevation, aspect, prevailing winds, weather and ancient soils. The ability to consistently retain expressive and fragrant aromas and obtain deep tannin ripeness with concentrated fresh flavors makes Trueman one of the estate’s most highly regarded wines. Trueman evokes aromas of ripe blackberries and bittersweet chocolate with hints of rose petal and wild sage. This transitions to an impeccably balanced palate with black plum notes and a fresh acidity interlaced with velvety tannins leading to a long memorable finish.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

There is little doubt about the fact that the most familiar red wine grape varietal in the world is the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, seen listed on bottles from more or less every single wine producing country across the globe. Part of the reason for this is the fact that Cabernet Sauvignon is a particularly hardy grape, resistant to both frost and rot, and can grow well in a number of climatic conditions so long as it receives enough sunlight and water. Of course, this is only half the story – we cannot ignore the fact that wines made from the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal are prized not only for their strong acidic fruit flavors, spicy and earthy notes and high tannin content, but also for the fact that they age beautifully in oak, resulting in wines which are on another level from those made from lesser grapes. Aged wines made using primarily Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are widely recognized to be the finest in the world. The aging process rounds out the tannins, softens the acidity and allows a wide range of fascinating and complex flavors and aromas to come through, making them an unquestioned highlight of the red wine world.

Of all the wine regions in Australia, the one which has been attracting the most attention and excitement in recent years is undoubtedly that of the Fleurieu peninsula, located close to Adelaide in the southern part of the country. The reason for all of the excitement surrounding this area is due to the fact that Fleurieu, being a peninsula, has plenty of interesting and unique micro-climates, resulting in a fascinating range of range. Indeed, the region has become known as one in which winemakers can practice a wide range of techniques, and produce a range of different wine styles depending on just where they grow their vines. Fleurieu is still most commonly associated with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines, although recent years have seen plenty of experimentation when it comes to varietals cultivated.

As the Australian passion for locally produced wine continues to develop, wineries have begun experimenting with a wider range of grape varietals, meaning that nowadays it isn't uncommon to find high quality Australian wines made from Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Viognier, amongst many others.
