This careful exercise in harmony is a grand showcase of marrying 80% Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon with Eden Valley Shiraz, bringing together different varieties from significantly different regions to achieve a seamless weave of complementary flavours and textures. It’s a bold vision smartly realised – the leafy lift, redcurrant bite and confident blackberry typical of Coonawarra Cabernet threaded with the plush red and blue fruited exuberance of Eden Shiraz. A lively fresh berry perfume leaps from the glass, but the great highlight of this blend is the comforting savoury notes that envelop the mid-palate and keep descending through its densely layered structure. This 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz The Caley is a picture of purity and precision. There are layers of bright red and black currant fruits spliced with graphite, red cherry and the faintest dusting of spice and dried herbs - all beautifully settled with a strong but integrated background of coffee bean oak. A classic claret style follows: a tight fruit core wound up in dense but satiny textured tannins. The finish is killer - seamless, sleek and extremely long, showing a seductive mix of fruit and tannins with a peacock's tail to close. This is a classic in the making.

Impressive and expansive, plush and rich, oozing with huckleberry and bittersweet chocolate–covered dried blueberry flavors, with touches of espresso on an appealing fleshy frame. Shows notes of palo santo, rosemary, white pepper and bay leaf that add aromatic complexity, with an epic, generous finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Drink now through 2040.

Deep, dense red in colour. Distinct Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon aromas: fresh, cool and refined green olive, leafiness, iodine and intriguing, fine and complex aromatics. In south-eastern Australia, close to the border of Victoria, we find the Limestone Coast – one of Australia's best known and most highly regarded wine regions which produces up to a third of the country's wines each year. Limestone Coast is notably for many reasons; the cool, maritime climate which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and fully makes it a favorite for vintners and wine lovers alike, and the high quality soil rich in minerals often results in characterful wines with plenty of terroir expression. Interestingly, unlike other Australian wine regions, the Limestone Coast has a very healthy water table, meaning that irrigation is no issue in the region, and the vines remain healthy even through the dry ripening season. Plenty of different varietals flourish there, and red wine grapes grow to full ripeness in the warmer areas of the coastline, whilst fine white varietals such as Viognier grow very well indeed in the cooler parts.
