Made in a deeper, richer style, the Grand Vin white 2021 Château Cos D'Estournel Blanc offers a vivid, racy, medium-bodied, concentrated mouthfeel as well as bright, juicy notes of white grapefruit, chalky mineral, and white flowers. It brings this terrific rocky, chalky, mineral-driven style on palate, has bright acidity, and a great mid-palate. It's seriously impressive.

The 2021 Cos d'Estournel Blanc is fabulous. In fact, the 2021 is one of the finest vintages I can remember tasting. Readers will find a white of tremendous stature and sheer palate presence. Lemon oil, chamomile, pear, baked apple tart and light tropical accents are all amplified in this dramatic, racy white from Cos d'Estournel. I can't wait to taste this in bottle.

Such a gorgeous nose, really so aromatic filled with caramel , honey, lemon balm, cream, apricot, honeysuckle and white flowers. Generous, unctuous and driven, this is also quite sharp but in a precise way, it finds the back of the throat and takes aim delivering all the flavour at once in a straight line. I love the intensity, the drive of lemon and fragrant spice also with a wet stone bitterness that lingers. It’s not round or expansive necessarily but so confident, super juicy and mouthwatering. Lots of complexity and detail - a yummy and impressive white.

Including fully 29% Sémillon, the 2021 Cos d'Estournel Blanc is a terrific effort from holdings in the northern Médoc. Offering up aromas of confit citrus, crisp orchard fruit, lime zest, pastry cream and freshly braked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and incisive, with chalky structuring dry extract and a penetrating finish. There's no question that it's one of the Médoc's most interesting white wines.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

The beautifully crafted and carefully blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France have gone down in history as being amongst the finest in the world. The secret to the success of these wonderfully flavorful, complex and elegant wines is in the selection of particularly high quality grape varietals, with French law dictating that only nine varietals of white grapes can be grown in the region and used in the production of blended white Bordeaux wine. The most common grape varietals used in the blend are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, which each add their own flavors and aromas to the wine, balancing out each other and rounding the wine. The other six varietals are seen less and less nowadays, but are still used by certain heritage wineries and are expected to make a comeback.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
