The Cabernet Franc wines from 2017 are deep garnet in colour, broad and muscular in structure and replete with a mix of ripe red and dark berry fruit and firm yet supple tannins. While juicy and attractive in their youth, the entry and mid-tier wines possess a structure and vigour that begs for at least two to three years of bottle age before drinking. Across the collection, the wines share a level of concentration and depth that will reward long-term ageing. In the case of the Estate and La Penna, we expect outstanding results from 10-plus years of cellaring

Varietal: Cabernet Franc

For many centuries now, Cabernet Franc has been a grape varietal deeply associated with high quality wines. It is now grown all over the world, and is generally used as a grape for blending in the production of fine, aged Bordeaux-style wines, generally considered to be amongst the best in the world in regards to flavor and complexity. The vine itself thrives in cooler, valley regions in many countries, and tends to ripen quite early, allowing wineries to make the most of its fantastic range of aromas and distinctive bright, pale red color Cabernet Franc is still often used for single variety wines, and is popular with those looking for a grape varietal which offers unusual aromas, with everything from raspberries to tobacco coming off the glass.

Country: Canada

Canada has been producing quality wines for over two hundred years, and has hundreds of established wineries producing characterful and easily recognizable wines from the many imported grape varietals which flourish in the cool climate and excellent soils which typify the region. The primary wine producing regions of Canada are all located in the south of the country, and benefit from the consistent climate found there. The two largest wine producing regions is Canada are the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, and Niagara Peninsula, in Ontario. Both of these regions produce large quantities of the ice wine Canada is famous for, where the grapes are allowed to freeze on the vine during the early frosts, and thus have their sugars and flavors concentrated, resulting in highly aromatic and often very sweet wines.
