Richly fruity, offering dark plum and dark currant flavors that are pure and direct, with peppery accents in the midpalate. The finish lingers with dark chocolate, cream and dried green herbal hints. Drink now through 2026. 2,333 cases made, 800 cases imported.

The 2018 Syrah Cromas Gran Reserva is the first vintage for this wine from Peralillo, Colchagua, which was 50% aged in French barrels. Purple in the glass. The nose offers blackberry and raspberry plus fine hints of black pepper and bacon. Juicy on the palate with firm tannins (I tried it when it had spent just 15 days in the bottle) and a voluminous flow, it has a pleasantly flavorful effect at the back of the mouth and a fresh aftertaste. A tasty wine.
Winery
Deep garnet color with violet hues. Enthralling aromatics with a complexity that expresses the different typicity of the lots of origin, with distinct notes of violets and blackberry, complemented by hints of pepper, cold cuts, and a touch raspberry macaroons. The wine’s palate is powerful, with nice volume, gentle tannins, and lively acidity. The aftertaste is reminiscent of a wide range of red and black berries. This is certainly a wine that will have an interesting evolution and will express complexity at every stage.

Varietal: Syrah

The Shiraz or Syrah grape varietal has seen a huge surge in popularity over the past few decades, partly due to the fact that more and more wineries around the world are beginning to plant and process this robust and flavorful grape for international audiences. This varietal has plenty going for it, and has the special ability of being able to clearly express positive features of its terroir in the bottle, alongside its characteristic flavors of dark berries, pepper and other spices. Shiraz/Syrah is also notably a highly versatile grape, and has been successfully used in several type of still red wine, as well as excellent sparkling and fortified wines. It is also regularly used as a blending grape, where it is prized for its ability to add a bold and strong, spicy punch to mellow, blended wines.

Region: Valle Central

The Valle Central of Chile is one of the world's most fascinating and unique wine regions, being a New World region with a history which stretches back several centuries to the time of the first European settlers on the South American continent. Although those original settlers brought their vines across the ocean for the production of sacramental wine, the way they flourished on Chilean soil was not ignored. Over the centuries, the vineyards around the Maipo and Maule valleys grew and grew, and now the Valle Central is the most productive wine region of South America, producing many of Chile's most characterful and flavorful wines. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varietal grapes are grown and processed in huge quantities for the international market, but there are also many vineyards dealing with high quality Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Carmenere grapes which are constantly gaining attention and praise from critics and wine drinkers around the world.

Country: Chile

When considering the rich and fertile central valleys of Chile, where we find most of the oldest, grandest and established wineries, it is difficult to imagine a more suited landscape for vineyard cultivation and wine production. Mineral rich soils, eight months of sunshine per year, oceanic winds and clear water running down the mountainsides – it is little wonder that the imported Old World grapes do so well here. Chile is renowned world-wide for producing highly drinkable wines, packed full of fruit-forward character and enjoyed young and fresh, as well as being home to more complex wines reminiscent of many Old World varieties. Whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon is widely regarded as being Chile's 'flagship' grape varietal, equally fine produce comes from Chardonnay grapes (indeed, the Sol de Sol Chardonnays are widely agreed to be amongst the New World's finest white wines) the plummy Merlot and silky, intense Pinot Noir.
