Ripe and tropical, this full-bodied wine conveys mango, quince and ripe white peach that accompany a rich texture. It's going to develop relatively quickly, so drink from 2018. Winemaker Stephan Carrier returned from Napa to take over winemaking after Irish businessman Lochlann Quinn bought the property in 2001. A new winery and barrel cellar opened in 2011. Hubert de Boüard of Château Angelus consults with Carrier. Fieuzal's newsletter is an accurate report on harvests. ... More details

Deep straw-yellow. Aromatic lemon oil, tangerine and oak on the nose. On the palate, fresh citrus and yellow melon flavors are extended by bright acidity, with the finish showing a hint of tannic bite and a truffley nuance. This has enough stuffing to gain further depth with bottle age.

A hint of talc gives way quickly to green melon, green apple and green almond notes. The finish is rounded and lush, but the flavors stay bright. Score Range: 89-92

Lively young white with sliced-apple, pear and grapefruit character. Medium to full body, crisp finish. Pretty intensity and freshness. Outstanding potential.

The 2013 De Fieuzal Blanc has quite a candied nose with hints of brown sugar lurking behind that veneer of tropical fruit. For Fieuzal I find this refreshingly vivacious in style. That comes through on the palate with nectarine and peach skin, a keen line of acidity with a slightly overworked finish that is more phenolic than its peers. It needs 3 or 4 years in bottle to really show its mettle, though instinct tells me that it will be worth waiting for.

Varietal: White Bordeaux

Of all the blended white wines in the world, it is those which come out of the Bordeaux region of France which have an unrivaled reputation for excellence of character and sublime, complex flavors This is mainly due to the expertise of the established wineries of the region, who have for centuries been carefully and skilfully blended selected grape varietals in order to balance their wines and bring out each grape's best features. There are nine grape varietals allowed by French law for the inclusion in Bordeaux white blended wines, and these are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Gris, Merlot Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Ondenc and Mauzac. However, the vast majority of white wines from this region are made primarily from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, with a little Sémillon or Muscadelle blended into their fermenting juices.

Region: Bordeaux

There are few wine regions in the world with a reputation as glowing and well established as that of the Bordeaux, in France. Situated mainly around the Dordogne and Gironde rivers, Bordeaux makes the most of its humid climate and rich, clay and gravel based soils to grow some of the finest examples of red and white grape varietals on earth. Wineries in this region have been in operation for hundreds of years, and have carefully developed the expertise required for the production of carefully balanced and utterly delicious blended red and white wines, alongside some exceptional single variety bottles. Many of the chateaux found in Bordeaux have become household names, due to their prestige and the excellence of their products, grown with love and dedication by heritage wineries in this beautiful and special region.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
