Some currant and cooked plum character, underlying dried flowers. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Balanced and pretty. Drink now.

Soft and gentle, a little austere on the palate, the oak and spices sticking out above the graceful texture. Well handled, the tannins though a little rough feel integrated and there is fruit - blackcurrant and black plum with creamy edges that are nicely satisfying with lots of freshness. I like the acidity and strawberry juiciness which is sharp but puts the wine in focus, it just lacks some plumpness and is marked by a high medicinal, eucalyptus and clove edge which lingers on the tongue. In the vertical it's the weakest, but there are virtues nonetheless and you can tell it's been carefully made.

This offers perfumed blackberry and black currant fruit, lined with licorice root and fruitcake notes that give way to a grippy, brambly finish. Just a touch chewy at the very end, but this should soften soon enough. Stylish overall. Best from 2017 through 2023. 12,083 cases made.

Varietal: Red Bordeaux

The Bordeaux method of blending quality grape varietals is something which has long been imitated and envied around the world. Whilst there are six Bordeaux grape varietals allowed for the production of red wine in this region of France – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Carménere – the most common and widely used combination involves a careful blend of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, usually with a small percentage of Petit Verdot to boost the overall flavor and balance things out. This process accentuates the finer points of all these varietals, and takes the astringency of one type whilst rounding it out and mellowing it with the light tannins and fleshiness of another. The results are rarely short of spectacular, and are perfect for oak aging, where the flavorful magic of Bordeaux wine making can really take place, and the complex aromas and characteristics can truly come forward.
