Although the 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape fermented in concrete, it then matured in 20% new oak, so this blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault is marked by scents of vanilla, cedar and wood spice. There are enough red raspberries and black cherries to provide a sense of balance, and the wine is full-bodied without being that rich or concentrated. Lots of ripe black cherry fruits, graphite, ground pepper, and some leather nuances emerge from the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a ripe, nicely balanced, focused 2020 that has an outstanding finish. Based on 60% Grenache, 15% each of Syrah and Mourvedre, and the balance Cinsault, it can be drunk any time over the coming 10-12 years.

The southern French wine region of the Rhone Valley has been home to wine-makers for over two thousand years, with the first grapevines of the region being cultivated in around 600 BCE when the ancient Greeks arrived with their knowledge of viticulture and eagerness to produce more wine.
