Last of the 2020s from bottle, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Matteo checks in as 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah all from the Gallimardes lieu-dit in the south part of the appellation. Spicy red fruits, loamy earth, herbes de Provence, and peppery notes define the bouquet, and it's medium-bodied, with a supple, elegant mouthfeel, light tannins, and a great finish. It's surprisingly elegant and finesse-driven (the Gallimardes lieu-dit often produces, big, powerful wines), it has terrific balance, and should evolve gracefully for 10-12 years.

For over two thousand years, the southern French region of the Rhone Valley has been home to wine-makers and wineries of many different types.
