Pinot Grigio is no doubt an international variety but it has found an ideal home in Friuli. In few other regions of the world does Pinot Grigio manage to combine so perfectly freshness, body and breadht of aromas. To preserve the richness of those aromas, we ferment the must in stainless steel at controlled temperature, leaving the wine in contact with the fine lees for several months. In this way, it acquires mineral notes and a distinctive, terroir-driven personality. Malolactic fermentation has been partly carried out. It is a truly food-flexible wine: light appetizers and full-bodied fish first courses, great with summer salads or to drink throughout the meal.

Varietal: Pinot Gris

The grayish blue fruits of the Pinot Grigio grape varietal are used in the production of a very wide, and seemingly ever widening, range of quality white wines. These grapes pick up much of the features of their terroir, and as such, it isn't unusual to find find Pinot Grigio wines which have something of an alpine character, or hold slightly ashen, smoky flavors soaked up from various soils. They have a naturally high sugar content, which, depending on how they are handled and processed either leads to them producing semi-sweet wines, or drier, more fermented wines, or even wines with a relatively high alcohol content. These grapes prefer cooler climates, and as such are grown in several countries around the world which have strong oceanic breezes or shady valley regions.

Region: Friuli-Venezia Giulia

Up in the north of Italy, between the magnificent Italian Alps and the Adriatic sea, we find the beautiful region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This special region produces some of Italy's finest and most distinctive white wines, notable for their uniqueness and differences from the white wines found elsewhere in the country. Due to the region's proximity to Slovenia and Austria, it comes as no real surprise to find excellent Riesling and Pinot Bianco grapes growing in the vineyards of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, prized for their ability to capture the finest features of their wonderful alpine terroir. Friuli-Venezia Giulia prides itself on the fact it is characterized by small, independent wineries, dedicated to producing unusual and characterful wines which are the very essence of the cool, mountainous region they work with.
