From Pinot Gris vines almost 50 years old and vinified on the lees for about 20 months, the 2020 Grauer Burgunder Musbrugger offers a pure, deep and substantial nose of ripe fruit aromas intermingled with notes of crushed stones, herbal infusion, oatmeal, fine tannins and a hint of new oak. Rich, refined and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense and concentrated, intense and powerful Pinot Gris with fine tannins and elegant, mineral acidity. It is very, very long and saline, with drying tannins but a rich extract and a complex aftertaste. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork stopper. Tasted in November 2022 (L 11 22). ... More details

Sweeping elegance. Creamy, but fantastically slim thanks to mature acidity. Scent, among other things. for flowers and fresh pastries. Lime in the mouth, sweet melon and earthy flavor. This Pinot Gris has an aging potential of at least ten years.

Varietal: Pinot Gris

One of the most versatile and interesting white wine grape varietals widely grown around the world is surely the Pinot Grigio. This grape comes in many different shades and colors, and unsurprisingly, it can also provide a remarkable range of flavors and aromas in the bottle. It is a varietal quite strongly influenced by both the terroir it is grown in, as well as by the expertise and intentions of the winery which is processing it. As such, many Pinot Grigio wines are relatively sweet, due to their high level of natural sugar. However, they can also be very dry for the same reasons, and in many countries they are aged and mellowed, resulting in beautiful tawny amber tones and a very rounded, full bodied character quite unlike white wines made from any other grape varietal.

Country: Germany

Despite being known primarily for sweet and semi-sweet white wines, Germany actually produces a surprisingly large and varied range of wines, with many reaching an extremely high standard and being very well received on the world stage. The terrain across much of the southern parts of the country is extremely fertile, with mineral rich soils adding a wonderful edge to already excellent grapes, and thus resulting in delicious and highly elegant white and rosé wines. The climate in many parts of Germany also allows for some more unusual wine-making practices, with certain regions specializing in the highly aromatic and distinctive 'ice-wines' which are gaining popularity by those looking for something a little more intense and unusual. With these wines, the producers allow the grapes to freeze through the early frosts, resulting in a higher sugar content and a fantastic set of flavors and aromas in the finished product. Germany has long since favored quality over quantity, and a new enthusiasm for fine wine within the country is producing truly exciting results, using a blending of traditional and contemporary techniques.
