The flagship 2018 L'Ermita is already classified as Gran Vinya Classificada, the new category of Grand Cru vineyards from the Priorat appellation of origin. Like the 2017, the blend here is mostly Garnacha with about 20% Cariñena (the highest for this wine) and 2% of white grapes that fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats with a maceration of 56 days and matured in oak barrels of different sizes for 14 months. The grapes were picked quite late but on the same date as the previous year, the 17th of October, because the vineyard is so regular. The wine is aromatic, intense and elegant, with a lifted nose, a high-pitched note of violet pastille, more refined than the Aubaguetes and Baixada. It is classical and proportioned, with contained and complex aromas and flavors and lots of energy, light in its feel but with inner power and strength. As with most great wines, it should develop nicely and for a long time in bottle but will drink well throughout its life. Grand vin, yes. 2,440 bottles were filled in April 2020. ... More details

So perfumed with violets, lavender and purple fruit, as well as slate. Full-bodied with tight, polished tannins that are layered and compact at the same time. Chewy, yet refined. Superb finesse and precision. Drink after 2022.

The Grenache grape varietal has its origins in the dry and arid regions of central Spain, where it continues to thrive to this day under the blazing sun of this region. The tightly bunched, round fruit of the Grenache vine can be rigorous and prodigious in the correct conditions, but is often struggling against various types of rot and mildew. Thanks to modern techniques for avoiding such problems, Grenache grape farmers now enjoy strong and high quality yields which they can use to produce the distinctive light bodied and spicy wines associated with this grape.

For thousands of years, Spain's beautiful wine region of Catalunya has been a powerful center of wine production, with much archaeological evidence to suggest that quality vines were being cultivated in the fine Catalan soils many hundreds of years before even the first Roman settlers arrived. The wonderful coastal Mediterranean climate of the region creates an ideal environment for viticulture, and the excellent conditions are improved further by the mineral rich soils which cover much of the region's valleys and hillsides. As a result, the bodegas and wineries which operate in Catalunya are able to grow a wide variety of imported and native grape varietals, and are able to produce their famous sparkling Cava wines in large quantities, alongside the many still red and white wine bottles which are brought out each year to critical acclaim.
