Varietal: Trebbiano
The Trebbiano varietal grape is a white wine grape originally from Italy, but which has been successfully planted and cultivated in several European countries, as well as in many parts of the New World. Although it is widely grown around the world, it remains relatively unknown to wine drinkers, perhaps because it has mostly been used traditionally as a blending varietal, and for the production of fortified wines. However, it is used very well in parts of Tuscany and elsewhere in Italy for single variety wines, where it is prized for its elegant character and beautiful citrus flavors, alongside floral aromas and a great expression of terroir. As such, Trebbiano wines often hold interesting mineral notes, making them fascinating and complex white wines perfect for matching with a wide range of foods.
Region: Emilia-Romagna
There are few wine regions in the world with as much history and tradition as you will find in Emilia-Romagna. This special northern Italian wine region has been producing wines of quality and distinction for well over two and a half thousand years, and was a favorite region for wine production of the Roman empire, who played a large part in the development of the region. Today, Emilia-Romagna has a booming wine industry, mostly centered around the production of the perennially popular sparkling Lambrusco wines, which are adored worldwide for their delightful fruit flavors and small, elegant bubbles. However, a stunning range of still red and white wines are also produced in the region, commonly made from fine grape varietals including Malvasia, Sangiovese and many others.
