70% Granaccia (a local biotype of Grenache), and the balance is Rossese, Barbera, Cinsault and Marselan. From south facing vineyards, near the Mediterranean, in Ortovero and Pogli. The vineyards consist of poor soil, pebbly limestone of sedimentary origin, and streaks of calcareous blue clay. Mediterranean microclimate, mitigated by the constant sea breezes. Vine age spans from 5 to 40 yrs old. The wine is produced as a staggered field blend-- in 2015 two harvests took place, based on the level of maturity. Each harvest was cofermented, so in 2015 there were two stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins for six days with three daily pumpovers. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel at close to 24°. The wine remains in steel for 8 months, where malo is also completed. Matured in bottle for at least a month. Bansigu means see-saw, as the children’s drawing on the label indicates. It is meant to be an easy, but assertive wine with a clear Mediterranean imprint.

Varietal: Grenache

For many centuries now, vintners in the dry and arid regions of Europe have been growing the purple skinned fruits of the Grenache vines for use in a wide range of different wines. Their influence and popularity led to them being planted all over the New World in any region with the correct climatic conditions for them to thrive in, away from the damp or wet weather which causes this particular varietal to very easily rot. Grenache grapes are prized by many as a result of their spicy berry flavors, and the fact that they have a relatively high alcohol content in the bottle. This has led to them being often used as a blending grape, although single variety bottles are also common and make the most of their light body and interesting, rich flavors
