Zenato’s 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a massive, towering wine bursting with black cherries, dried flowers, herbs and leather. The wine’s sheer concentration and richness have been achieved while maintaining considerable grace, even if this isn’t the most subtle Amarone readers will come across. Still, it’s impossible to deny the wine’s personality and class. This is a great effort from Zenato. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.

Beautifully polished and bright, Zenato delivers a knock-out Amarone that shows impressive richness and intensity. Soft oak flavors of spice, vanilla and leather are followed by bright cherry and blackberry aromas. The wine is penetrating and extremely smooth in the mouth.

Wonderful aromas of black licorice and blueberry lead to a full body, with juicy, round tannins. Luscious and decadent. Might be better on toast! A gorgeous wine, this is the real deal for Amarone. Why wait? But a little bottle age should really bring it together. Best after 2011.

Big and juicy wine, with loads of blueberry and dried blackberry aromas and flavors. Full and velvety, with gorgeous fruit and a long caressing finish. Drink now. Find the wine.

Ruby red in color, intoxicating aromas of dried black cherries, cassis, truffles, and chocolate fudge leap out of the glass. The resulting wine is silky, luscious, and complex, with a lingering finish.

Varietal: Corvina Blend

The Corvina varietal grape is one of Italy's most famous products, and is used in the production of some of the country's most famous and widely admired wine. Amarone and Valpolicella wines use a high percentage of Corvina grapes, and these wines make the most of the grapes' bright crimson color, and richness of sour cherry flavors Because the Corvina grape has a naturally high level of fruit acid, it is perfect for barrel aging This process rounds out the harsher, bitterer aspects of the grape, and produces wonderfully soft, mellow yet complex red wines. Most commonly associated with the region of Veneto, Corvina grapes have, in recent decades, been planted in several New World countries eager to emulate the fine wines found in Italy.

Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.
