This is a smashing success. The Tua Rita 2019 Syrah Per Sempre hits it out of the ballpark thanks to its impressive richness and aromatic intensity. The grapes come from a special growing site with compact galestro soils. These conditions aid in the richness and the concentration of the wine, with its distinctive hints of iron ore, pencil shaving and rust. Those precise aromas frame a deep, dark core of cherry or blackberry confit. This vintage shows some extra fattiness or fruit weight that adds to its power and overall impact. This is a standout bottle from a classic vintage. ... More details

Subtle aromas of spice, sweet tobacco leaf and black fruit follow through to a full body with chewy tannins, yet they are fine-grained and intense. Hints of vanilla now. This will come together beautifully. Give it three to four years of bottle time to show its best.

Rated 93 by Wine Spectator
Complex, this red features generous black currant, blackberry and violet flavors wrapped in a cloak of spicy new oak. Deftly balanced and supple in texture, with a vibrant feel to the long, resonant aftertaste. Drink now through 2030. 292 cases made, 60 cases imported.
Winery
Deep garnet in color, notes of ripe blackberries and plums complement undertones of figs, black pepper, and violets. On the palate, it is full-bodied with silky tannins and flavors that unfold into the lush finish.

Varietal: Syrah

There are few red wine grape varietals in the world quite as versatile as that of the Shiraz/Syrah vine. These powerful darkly colored grapes are responsible for several wildly popular wines, and are used in the production of still, fortified and sparkling wines, all which carry its magnificent strong flavors very well indeed. This grape varietal is a robust one, easily adaptable to several different climates and terroirs, and yet has a strong ability to express the conditions it is grown in when it ferments and is drank. Most typically, Shiraz/Syrah wines are known for spicy flavors with a big fruity punch, and the fact that they can demonstrate the decisions made by the winemakers in their secondary flavors very clearly.

Region: Tuscany

Tuscany is probably Italy's most important and widely respected wine region, with a history which stretches back almost three thousand years, and a set of fine grape varietals which produce some of the most delicious quality white and red wines in the world. Sangiovese and Vernaccia varietal grapes are grown all over this expansive region, and the way they are handled, aged and processed varies from town to town. The beautiful hot climate of Tuscany helps these grapes reach full ripeness, despite the fact the soil of the region is generally problematic for the vintners who work there. Despite this, there is a dedication to quality and flavor in Tuscany which is more or less unmatched anywhere else in Italy, and a great mix of strong tradition and willingness to experiment and think outside the box which has been a wonderful recipe for success in the region.

Country: Italy

For several decades in the mid to late twentieth century, Italy's reputation for quality wines took a fairly serious blow. This was brought about partly due to lack of regulation in certain regions, and too much regulation in others. This led to several wineries in the beautiful and highly fertile region of Tuscany making the bold move to work outside of the law, which they saw as responsible for the drop in quality in Tuscan wines. They believed that they had the expertise and the generations of experience necessary with which to make truly excellent, world class wines, and set about doing just that. These 'Super Tuscans', as they came to be known, quickly inspired the rest of Italy to improve their produce, and now, Italian wine producers in the twenty-first century are widely recognised to be amongst the best in the world. Regulation and law began to change, and wine drinkers across the globe woke up to the outstanding wines coming out of Italy, which are continuing to improve and impress to this day.
