With fruit from a vineyard planted on the so-called "new lava flow" (with volcanic flows dating from 40,000 to 4,000 years ago), the Tenuta Tascante 2019 Etna Rosso Contrada Sciaranuova offers a unique set of aromas over a beautiful, luminous and shiny appearance. The volcanic character of the wine is on full display, and you sense campfire ash, flint, iron ore and wild rose. Sciaranuova is slightly darker (compared to the Contrada Pianodario, but only by a hair), and the aromas veer to the mineral side of the equation. Aromas of red cherries, sliced strawberries and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied with subtle concentration that expresses an array of fresh black and red berries across the palate. Silky tannins. Fresh. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Etna Rosso Contrada Sciaranuova is darkly alluring yet perfumed, showing cedar and wild herbs giving way to crushed black cherries. This is elegant and refined, with polished red and blue berry fruits carried across a core of vibrant acidity as fine-grained tannins slowly mount toward the close. It leaves a slight balsamic tinge to linger while tapering off lightly structured and with medium length as echoes of licorice fade.
Winery
Sciaranuova, one of the four contrade (districts) in which we live and work, is located at an average elevation of 730 meters a.s.l., between Montelaguardia and Passopisciaro. Spanning 14.40 hectares, 4.9 hectares of which are vineyards, and characterized by terraces with dry stone walls and over 7 hectares of chestnut groves. It has a degrading morphology from South-West to North-East with an average slope of 8.5%. The territory in which the vineyards of the Contrada Sciaranuova are located is characterized by formations of volcanic origin between 40,000 – 4,000 years old.
