It might not have been the first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, but it was the one that put the style on the map – and its popularity is still as strong as ever, 35 years on. It comes at a price but the quality is reliably consistent, packed with quintessential flavours of ripe passion fruit, zesty grapefruit, fresh gooseberry and grassy, herbal tones. Drinking Window 2020 - 2023.

Plenty of tropical fruit and a grassy edge, too. This has so much fruit character and delivers mangoes and limes in abundance on the palate. Drink now. Screw cap.

This vintage of Marlborough's most famous label is a balanced, refreshing drop. Bright aromas of grapefruit, peaches n' cream, lemongrass and tomato leaf lead to a palate that crunches with acidity while also being slippery and juicy-fruited. A summer sipper with or without food.
Winery
Zesty lime and grapefruit aromas are the first to emerge from the nose of our 2013 sauvignon blanc, followed by nectarine and lemongrass tones. The palate is fresh and focused with ripe citrus, stonefruit, fennel and mineral notes lingering on the persistent finish. Our sauvignon blanc is a delicious partner to a tomato and goat curd salad drizzled with fresh basil oil.

green grapes

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is widely considered to be one of the finest varietals of white wine grapes. The green skinned fruit is notable for ripening relatively early in the year, due to the fact that it prefers milder temperatures and cannot maintain its distinctive flavors in hot climates. As such, it has become a favorite grape varietal for wineries in many very different countries around the world, where it can benefit from brisk, coastal breezes and mild early summers. Sauvignon Blanc is revered for its freshness and zesty character, and generally produces wines which are dry and very crisp on the palate. However, there are a wide variety of wines produced from this wonderfully versatile grape – with many wineries preferring to age the fermented juices in oak, or allowing malolactic fermentation to add a creamier, buttery finish to the grassy and tropical, citrus flavors it often carries.

Region: Marlborough

Although most commonly associated with excellent Sauvignon Blanc wines, the Marlborough region of New Zealand has also consistently proven that it is capable of growing extremely high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals, thus helping the country's wine industry grow in size and range. The region is an exceptionally good one for growing excellent grapes, the climatic conditions allow wineries to extend the ripening times of the fruit, and the result is fruit which is packed full of bright, strong flavors and able to express the finer features of the terroir it grows on. Since the 1970s, Marlborough has greatly impressed the world with its superb wines, and this special region now accounts for over sixty percent of the area of New Zealand under vine.

Country: New Zealand

New Zealand has consistently impressed over the past few decades, with many proclaiming this southern country as being the 'pearl' of the New World wine locations. One of the key attributes of New Zealand wines is their wonderful fruit-forward flavors, which make them a favorite with newcomers to wine, as they manage to be deliciously drinkable without posing many challenges. That isn't to say there is little complexity or interesting features to their wines, as one can easily discover through the fantastic range of wines available – from smoky and mineral rich Sauvignon Blancs, to juicy and plummy Pinot Noirs and the beautiful Bordeaux style wines sourced from the excellent Auckland region. New Zealand wineries clearly have a dedication to quality alongside quantity, and such zeal and expertise is quickly helping them become established as world leaders in regards to both domestic sales and exported wines.
