Rocking the new label and proprietary glass, the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is excellent. It’s soft and floral, with lashings of green apple, sweet pea, pink grapefruit, white currant, coriander and even kiwi fruit. Sensational wine. Cloudy Bay has a big reputation for a reason. Stands out for its intensity, with ruby grapefruit, yuzu and lemon essential oil details, plus notes of fresh-clipped, aromatic herbs centered around lemon thyme on a sleek, juicy frame. Long, expressive finish. Drink now. 270,000 cases made, 85,000 cases imported.

Lime peel, sliced green pears, hints of asparagus and lemons. It's bright and crisp with a medium body. Refreshing, showing restraint and focus. Drink now. Screw cap.
Winery
Zesty lime and grapefruit aromas are the first to emerge from the nose of our 2022 sauvignon blanc, followed by nectarine and lemongrass tones. The palate is fresh and focused with ripe citrus, stonefruit, fennel and mineral notes lingering on the persistent finish. Our sauvignon blanc is a delicious partner to a tomato and goat curd salad drizzled with fresh basil oil.

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

One of the most commonly planted and cultivated white wine grape varietals in the world is the Sauvignon Blanc. This green skinned grape originated in southern France, where it is still grown today and produced into exceptionally high quality wines. However, it is also very much a varietal of the New World, and can be found almost anywhere with the correct climatic conditions for it to thrive in. Generally, Sauvignon Blanc grapes prefer cooler climates, and benefit best from an early harvest. Too much exposure to heat causes the juices inside the fruit to lose much of their character, and results in flat, uninteresting wines devoid of the grapes' usual bite and crispiness. In many countries, Sauvignon Blanc grape juices are aged in barrels, and are allowed to undergo malolactic fermentation, which transforms this dry and refreshing, zesty and fruity white wine into something far mellower, more buttery and refined.

Region: Marlborough

When it comes to New Zealand wines, the Marlborough region is the most highly regarded and by far the largest in the country. The region itself has been closely associated with high quality white wines for over forty years now, and consistently produces some of the finest Sauvignon Blanc wines in the world. However, in recent years it has begun to expand its repertoire, and wineries have been busily raising Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines in Marlborough, amongst certain others. The excellent soil and ideal climate the region benefits from ensures the fruit there ripens slowly, achieving maximum flavor and expression of terroir. Furthermore, Marlborough's situation on the north easternmost tip of New Zealand's South Island ensures there are plenty of cooling oceanic breezes crossing the vineyards, making this one of the most perfect locations in the world for quality viticulture.

Country: New Zealand

As with nearby Australia, New Zealand has over the past century proven itself to be a superb location for producing high quality wines in vast amounts, with much of the cooler regions of both islands being used primarily for vine cultivation. New Zealand wineries are notable for their enthusiasm in regards to experimentation, and for utilizing modern technologies and methods to make the most of the imported grape varietals which flourish in the rich, fertile soils and oceanic climate. In recent years, it has been the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc wines which have gained the most attention, as a result of their smoky character and ability to carry the mineral rich nature of the terroir they grow in. Changing consumer interests have brought about a considerable rise in the production of organic and sustainable wines in New Zealand, of which again, the Sauvignon Blanc varietals are leading the way in regards to excellence, flavor and overall character.
