The 2019 La Demoiselle is an elegant yet ripe Pinot Noir that draws you in with its savory, spiced fruit and smoky bacon-like personality. Succulent yet long with delightful acidity, this is a rare Pinot planted on flint, the terroir's natural propensity to pull you along like a parent pulling the string on a toboggan. The finish is long, effortless and fragrant with tea leaf joining the array of aromas. Attractive now but it is still a pup and would be delightful in a few years when its savory development progresses. ... More details

The 2019 Sancerre La Demoiselle Rouge opens deep, fresh, pure and intense on the spicy nose that reveals ripe, dark fruit aromas intermixed with iodine notes. Silky, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, fleshy and persistently vivacious red Sancerre with a lot of power, intensity and tannins. Still young but also quite oxidative. 13% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted in December 2021.

Varietal: Cabernet Franc

In its native France, the Cabernet Franc varietal grape is used in the production of a wide range of wines, from the bright and pale red colored single variety bottles, to the magnificent oak aged and world-beating wines of the Bordeaux region. The past century has seen many other countries catch on to the importance of this fine grape varietal, and today, it is one of the most widely grown grapes in the world. It thrives in cool, temperate valley regions, where it can ripen fully and produce plump fruits carrying all their distinctive flavors and aromas. The production of Bordeaux-style wines around the world simply wouldn't be able to reach such heights without Cabernet Franc, which lends its fascinating and complex aromas to the mix and makes them the memorable wines they are.

Region: Loire Valley

In France, the region most closely associated with the production of fine white wines is the Loire Valley, a particularly fertile and temperate region near the Atlantic coast. This reputation is certainly justified, and the Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc vines which flourish in this region produce both dry and dessert wines of exquisite character and flavor However, the region is also responsible for some seriously high quality Cabernet Franc based wines, such as those found in the sub-region of Chenin, and plenty of elegant bubbly crémant wines, which are often fruitier and more lively than those found in Champagne, and with a character all of their own. The Loire Valley is an ancient wine region, with archaeological evidence dating wine production in this area back to the first century.

Country: France

Year in, year out, France enjoys its prestigious reputation as the producer of the finest wines in the world. With a wine making history which spans several thousand years and owes its expertise to the Romans, it comes as little surprise that this most highly esteemed of the Old World wine countries continues to impress and enchant both novices and experts to this day. Despite the rise in quality of wines from neighboring European countries, not to mention the New World, the French wine industry continues to boom, with up to eight billion bottles being produced in recent years. However, France prides itself on always putting quality before quantity, and the wide range in fine produce is a testament to the dedication and knowledge of the wineries across the country. Indeed, from rich and complex reds to light and aromatic white wines, French wines are as varied and interesting as they are enjoyable to drink, making this country a firm favorite for wine lovers across the globe.
