Limpid straw-yellow. Assertive, mineral-accented orchard fruit, melon and fennel aromas are sharpened by hints of ginger and lemon zest. Intense pear skin, Meyer lemon and violet pastille flavors show a suave blend of richness and delicacy thanks to a spine of juicy acidity. Closes minerally, taut and impressively long, leaving a powerful floral note behind. ... More details

Pretty, with flashes of verbena and creme fraiche aromas giving way to green plum, peach and apricot flavors. The long, lush finish lets the fruit glide through, leaving a light salted butter echo lingering and imparting an elegant hint. Drink now through 2020. 300 cases made.

Since the last time I visited the domaine a few years ago, I'm happy to say the whites at Rostaing have improved in clarity and focus. The 2016 Condrieu la Bonnette is medium-bodied, offering attractive floral, apricot and spice aromas. It's not overly rich but is fresh instead, with a clean, refreshing, peppery/gingery finish. It should drink well for a few years.

The 2016 Condrieu La Bonnette is terrific and has a pure, vibrant, classy style. Tangerine, white grapefruit, and floral notes all emerge from this medium-bodied, impeccably balanced, graceful Condrieu that has a clean, racy style that’s going to benefit from 6-12 months of bottle age. It’s classy stuff.

Varietal: Viognier

The green-skinned Viognier grape varietal has been around for centuries in France, with many people claiming that they were brought to the Rhone region from Croatia by ancient Romans who were impressed by its flavors and aromas. Today, they are grown in several different countries, although many wineries find them a difficult varietal to work with as they are highly susceptible to disease, and struggle in fluctuating climatic conditions. However, when the grapes are harvested at the right time, the wines they produce are of an exceptional quality. Their floral aromas are their main selling point, as these give an impression of sweetness over an otherwise dry and fruit-forward wine, and their crispness and low acidity makes them an ideal match for many international cuisines.

Region: Rhone Valley

In southern France, one of the primary wine regions responsible for the production of a fine and varied range of wines is the Rhone Valley. Split into two large sub-regions, this expansive valley benefits from micro-climates which allow the wineries to grow a vast array of fine grape varietals. The northern region is the more limited one in regards to the amount of varietals grown, focusing predominantly on raising excellent quality Syrah, Marsanne, Roussane and Viognier vines for their distinctive and elegant range of wines. The southern region, on the other hand, has a beautifully Mediterranean climate, and is home to dozens of grape varietals which are used to produce white, red and rosé wines, alongside some of the most famous and widely loved blended wines in the world.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
