The 2016 Kopke has a ripe black cherry, boysenberry, star anis scented bouquet that feels tight, broody but powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with black cherries, bilberry, salted liquorice and a touch of white pepper. This is very cohesive and pure, one of the most elegant Kopke releases from barrel that I have encountered. Take this very seriously.

Offers a rich, plush feel, with warmed fig, boysenberry compote and blackberry pâte de fruit notes carried by a wave of ganache and melted black licorice flavors. Stays lush and opulent all the way through. Very solid. Best from 2027 through 2040. 2,200 cases made, 200 cases imported.

Kopke Vintage Port Wines are made from hand-picked grapes in a harvest year of an exceptional quality. They age in barrels for a maximum period of two and a half years and are bottled afterwards.

The city and region of Porto in Portugal has long been regarded as one of the most important wine producing areas on earth, and home to many of the world's most distinctive and characterful wines and fortified wines. So important was it, in the 18th century, it became part of the third ever protected wine region, following one in Hungary, and one in Italy. The wineries of Porto have generations of experience and expertise when it comes to working their land, and the fertile valley sides in the Douro region where Porto is found offers plenty of opportunities for growing a wide range of grape varietals. Most commonly, Porto wineries cultivate Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tempranillo, Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional grapes, as these are the primary varietals used in the production of Porto's famous Port wines.
