The 2021 Reserva Branco is a 60/40 blend of Viosinho and Gouveio aged for five months in 50% new French barriques. This is the debut vintage of this wine, at a fairly hefty price. The winery certainly picked a nice white wine vintage for a debut. This is elegant and understated, tinged with some wood but also lively acidity. I like the way this shows, but it will be better next year and with food. After that, it's not so clear it will be a good ager. Certainly, at this price, it needs to be. We'll start here for the moment. There were 6,100 bottles produced, to be released in the fall.

A compact, medium-bodied white, with graphite, quinine and spice notes lacing poached apple and quince fruit, pastry and lemon preserves. The profile is coiled around racy acidity, keeping this focused and refreshing through to the lingering, chalk-tinged finish. Viosinho and Gouveio. Drink now through 2028. 468 cases made.

Rich and structured, it is outstanding for its finesse with an intense character typical of a magnific plot full of garrigue flowers. It is derived from a strict selection of the best batches of the Quinta's various indigenous grape varieties. An authentic white wine from the Douro Valley.

The Douro valley in Portugal has long been one of Europe's most important and unique wine regions, with a history which stretches back over two thousand years to when Pheonician tradesmen and settlers first began planting grapevines in the rich and fertile soil found there. The region itself is something of an ideal location for viticulture, with mineral rich soils and plenty of moisture from the river, alongside long, baking hot summers which help the grapes reach full ripeness. Wineries in the Douro utilize a wide range of grape varietals for their distinctive and characterful wines, including red varietals such as Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cao, and delightful white varietals such as Gouveio and the increasingly popular Viosinho. However, it is for the fortified wines of Porto which Douro is most famous for, and these are widely considered to be amongst the finest fortified wines in the world.
