This is made by drying the grapes, just like Vin Santo but with torontel. Mango dessert, dried papaya, sticky rice, dried apricots, crème caramel and peach pit with dried citrus-rind undertones. Torontel is a native grape to Chile, believed to be a natural hybrid although no DNA study has been done. This is skin contact wine, vino santo style, where grapes are kept on vines until late March then brought in as whole bunches, hanged to dry for two months before 32 months in large barrels. Totally gorgeous on the palate, with a bitter edge, and concentrated toffee, caramel, quince, orange blossom, apricot and ginger notes, almost dry, extremely fresh. Dry farmed in the Maule Valley, this is an exciting wine to taste. 100% ungrafted. Drinking Window 2020 - 2034.

A Torontel from Caliboro, Maule, the grapes were dried in the shadow of a gallery like raisins. Fragrant on the nose with hints of honey, a touch of turpentine and sun-dried, jammy grape notes, it presents an intense acidity, medium body and fluid feel. A sweet, vibrant oddity not unlike good candy.

Chile is a fascinating country when it comes to wines and viticulture, and by far the most internationally renowned wine region in the country is the Valle Central. This expansive valley is located close to the Chilean capital of Santiago, and stretches between the Maipo Valley and Maule Valley, a long, winding fault through the mountainous regions of the country which is now almost completely covered by vineyards producing wines of exquisite character. The region itself may well be associated with the 'New World' of wines, but in actual fact, vineyards have been cultivated around the Maipo valley since the 16th century, when settlers from Europe brought vines across the ocean with which to make sacramental wines. A wide range of grape varietals thrive in the hot climate of Valle Central, from the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines the country is most famous for, to Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Carmenere.
