It's a bit surprising that the 2019 Torremilanos, which is 100% Tempranillo and doesn't have any Cabernet Sauvignon, coming from a warmer and drier year, feels fresher and less ripe than the 2018 I tasted next to it, from a cooler year. They harvested earlier, and the wine has 14% alcohol (less than the 2018); the oak also feels more integrated and the wine more harmonious in general. It has an expressive nose and an almost salty feeling that calls for food. It's juicy, round and balanced. This will be released as a Reserva rather than a Crianza. ... More details

Spicy oak but nothing sweet here. Rather austere, with cured meat, smoke, iron and grilled herbs to the black and blue fruit. I like the crunch and the vibrancy here on the palate with bright acidity and tight and nicely chewy tannins. Slimmer than most Ribera del Dueros, but with good flavor concentration. 98% tempranillo and 2% merlot. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but better from 2024.

This blend of 95 % Tempranillo and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon is aged in French oak for 20 months. The average age of vines is 50 years.
