Barrel Sample. Rich and fruity, this wine has ripe tannins and already delicious black fruits. The structure is there, embedded in the juicy blackberry flavors. Drink from 2023.

An expressive and personality-driven wine, with clear spice and wall-scraping tannins that remain on the tongue,. It's not drying but certainly has a physical presence holding up the cassis, damson and bilberry fruit. Good quality, will take more time than some to come around, traces of heat through the mid palate but plenty to enjoy here.

David Suire continues to work magic at this larger estate located on the limestone plateau outside of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, and he's produced a gorgeous 2017 Chateau Laroque. Note of creme de cassis, black cherries, forest floor, truffle, and spring flowers all flower to a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated 2017 that has ripe, present tannins, a solid spine of acidity, wonderful purity, and outstanding length. It doesn't match 2016 (or I suspect the 2018), yet it's a beautiful, elegant Saint-Emilion that will drink nicely for over a decade. The blend is almost all Merlot (there’s 1% Cabernet Franc) and was trimmed from just 45% of the total production. It spent 14-16 months in 50% new French oak.

This shows the ripe, fresh profile of the vintage, featuring raspberry and damson plum fruit working in unison with savory tobacco and dried anise notes. A subtle sanguine thread shows on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2029. 11,250 cases made.

This St.-Emilion offers plenty of ripe red berries and plums with attractive leaf and bracken notes. The palate is supple and even with a fresh sleeve of fine, crisp tannin. Drink or hold.

With its dark blue colored fruits and high juice content, Merlot varietal grapes have long been a favorite of wine producers around the globe, with it being found in vineyards across Europe, the Americas and elsewhere in the New World.
