The 2020 Cuvée Edmond hails from a seven hectare, south-west-facing parcel sitting on kimmeridgian marl. Partially fermented in barrel and partially in wooden tanks, this is not Sauvignon as you know it - it is a wine led by texture not aromatics. Expect a succulent and silky Sancerre that is rich and concentrated. There's a cloud of nectarine fruit that blossoms in the mouth before concluding with an almost tannic structure. The only minus is that the alcohol feels a little warm on the finish, detracting from the pleasure at the end, which is reflected in my score. Otherwise, outstanding. ... More details

Winery
Pale gold yellow in colour with light green sheen brilliant, bright and clear a young honest appearance. A rich majestic nose. All is rich, ripe and powerful, whether it is fruity or floral. Density, depth and balanced graceful “majestic nature” are established from the outset. Honey, vanilla, lemon, brioche etc., follow each other as if in a daydream, all orchestrated through a new woody tone. Opening it makes it welcoming and tender with crisp plants revealing aniseed, menthol, liquorice and spices. A gluttonous, rich and virile nose. The effect is extensive, lively and gluttonous, ideally balanced between being highly well rounded and agreeably crisp. Smoothly rounded it gives full measure in establishing liquorice and aniseed, lime and vanilla, pepper and Muscat. The long spicy and woody finish is carved in flint.

green grapes

Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is widely considered to be one of the finest varietals of white wine grapes. The green skinned fruit is notable for ripening relatively early in the year, due to the fact that it prefers milder temperatures and cannot maintain its distinctive flavors in hot climates. As such, it has become a favorite grape varietal for wineries in many very different countries around the world, where it can benefit from brisk, coastal breezes and mild early summers. Sauvignon Blanc is revered for its freshness and zesty character, and generally produces wines which are dry and very crisp on the palate. However, there are a wide variety of wines produced from this wonderfully versatile grape – with many wineries preferring to age the fermented juices in oak, or allowing malolactic fermentation to add a creamier, buttery finish to the grassy and tropical, citrus flavors it often carries.
barrel

Region: Loire Valley

The ancient wine region of the Loire Valley in France is a perfect place to discover the country's finest examples of white wines, which are made with a highly successful blend of traditional and modern wine-making techniques. Indeed, the Loire Valley has a wine-making tradition which stretches back almost two thousand years, and today continues to be a standard bearer for fine white wines made predominantly with Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc varietal grapes. However, it also produces superb red wines from the Cabernet Franc grapes which thrive there, and plenty of excellent rosé and sparkling wines for which the region is also famous. With almost ninety controlled appellations, the Loire Valley is an extremely important region within France, and the significance of their produce cannot be overlooked.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
